Generator is an important part of the car, its function is in the normal operation of the engine to power electrical equipment, and charge the battery. At present, the generators used in vehicles are all ac generators. Compared with the earlier dc generators, ac generators have the advantages of small size, large power, long service life, fewer faults and good performance of low-speed charging.
Generator construction
The generator consists of rotor assembly, stator assembly, rectifier assembly, end cover, pulley and fan. After the engine is started by the battery, the stator assembly is driven to rotate by the generator belt connected with the crankshaft, thus generating a synchronous rotating magnetic field. At this time, the stator coil generates electromagnetic induction in the rotating magnetic field, thus generating voltage and current. The stator coil generates a three-phase alternating current, which is converted to direct current by a rectifier to charge the battery and power the on-board electrical equipment.
Type of generator
According to the different structure, the ac generator for automobile can be divided into ordinary ac generator (also known as silicon rectifier generator) and integral ac generator. The voltage regulator of the ordinary ac generator is separately equipped, and the regulator of the integral ac generator is made into a whole with the generator. Both structures have carbon brushes that provide direct current to the rotor's excitation coil through a carbon brush and slip-ring, thus generating a synchronous rotating magnetic field.
Generators and driving motors
With the popularity of new energy vehicles, many repair shops have begun to contact hybrid electric vehicles and pure electric vehicles. When these models work, they are mainly powered by the power battery to the drive motor, which drives the vehicle through the transmission system after running. The driving motor is basically the same as the generator in the traditional automobile in structure, except that the generator is driven by the engine and the mechanical energy is converted into electrical energy, while the driving motor is driven by the power battery and the electrical energy is converted into mechanical energy.
Maintenance method of generator:
1, clean the generator appearance of dirt and dust, keep clean and well-ventilated.
2. Check the fastening condition of all fasteners related to the generator, and tighten all bolts in time.
3, check the transmission belt tension should be appropriate, too loose easy to slip and cause insufficient power, too tight easy to damage the belt and generator bearings. If there is an automatic tensioner, check the belt for cracks and the tensioner's working condition.
4, if the maintenance project needs to disconnect the battery harness or replace the battery, the battery harness must be connected to the positive line, otherwise it is very easy to damage the rectifier diode generator.
